One of Melbourne's oldest suburb, South Melbourne has an old-world charm to it which is best enjoyed with a hot cup of coffee and a good book!
Although South Melbourne does not have many tourist attractions to speak of, there are definitely some things that you can do to enjoy the Suburbs!
South Melbourne is a very old town which was earlier just surrounded by swamps. During the Gold Rush of the 1850s, people flocked to this area in droves and eventually settlements came here to make a life. One can still see the Victorian architecture in certain parts of the town. The South Melbourne Town Hall is an iconic place, built in 1879 and is on the Victorian Heritage Register because of its unique second empire construction style. You can start your day by visiting the town hall and marvel at its magnificent architecture.
There are many cute little cafes lined up on Clarendon Street, Park street and various other places where you can enjoy a sumptuous breakfast or a lazy brunch. Head over to Link tours at Montague street where the good people will take you out for a tour of the Yarra Valley where you can enjoy the beautiful sights and fine wine. You can even have a nice picnic or barbecue at the Albert Park. There are boats available for hire for those who want to enjoy some time on the water. Even if you don't want to go boating, you can sit by the lake and enjoy the beauties of nature.
The South Melbounre market has been functional since 1867 and serving every single need of the town since then. One must make a trip to this market to see the local culture and people in all its their glory and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the market. The market also holds many tours where you can learn more about the history of the market. Check out their website https://www.southmelbournemarket.com.au to know more!
All in all, this quaint little suburb is nice for a quiet weekend getaway with your loved one or your family.
While we were discussing about the good life of the suburbs, we came up with a very interesting piece of trivia. The best luggage organizers out there, Lapoche, has its origins in the streets of South Melbourne. Who knew such a small town will give birth to such an amazing brand! We cannot even begin to imagine what our suitcases would look like if we did not have Lapoche luggage organizers! A true blessing for chaotic packers!
Well, this is it. Until next Wednesday dearies!
